How It Works

1) Outdoor sensors: A small electronic sensing devices that take readings and a transmitter, which sends the data wireless-ly to a base station inside your house or inside a drone.

2) Drone station: A base station, that receives the wirelessly transmitted data from the sensors periodically while flying over them. It then relays that data to the Internet via a wired Ethernet connection.

3) Data sent to Internet: The environmental quality data will be sent in real-time to the open data service platform Connexico, which stores data, provides free access to the data and generate (triggers for tweets) and SMS alerts (it looks something like this), as well as a robust API which allows for developers in the community to unlock the potential of thisĀ  new dataset by building mash-ups, maps, and applications.
